My name is Derek Silski. I am a trained and certified mental health counselor. I have 11 years of military service, 5 years of experience in crisis intervention, and 2 years of experience in behavioral management and substance abuse counseling.

This site will be based on my experience as well as research into different topics or modalities of mental health counseling.

Military Service

My time in the military was primarily as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army. As a Noncommissioned Officer I have served in many leadership roles as well as an instructor for a Military Police School. I spent 6 years as a Military Police Investigator and deployed to Afghanistan in this function.

So Why Are We Here?

I returned from deployment and pursued my college education, leading me to obtain my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. During my time in school, and following there after, I have presented on trauma, addiction, resilience, emotional regulation, and military culture.

From my time in school, discussions at conferences or with peers, and sessions with clients, I have noticed there is so much more to learn and explore in the field of mental health and personal growth. Here I want to share what I know, and what I research along the way, to help build a more informed community. As humans, we first grow together.
